The immediate past Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Bayelsa State, Col Sam Inokoba (retd.) yesterday reportedly slumped and died in Lagos.
Aged 67, the former PDP stalwart, who recently defected to All Progressives Congress, APC, was said to have slumped and died while on a private visit to his family.
Although the deceased was rumoured to have died in the house of Mr. Timi Alaibe, former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, the former NDDC boss, however, said in a statement last night that Inokoba did not die in his residence, adding that he was in Abuja at the time the incident occurred.
Inokoba was reported to have procured his nomination forms at the APC secretariat in Abuja to contest the governorship election primaries of the APC. His eldest son, Waripamowei, yesterday at his father’s Yenagoa residence, which was filled with sympathizers, said: “My father slumped at about 2a.m., Wednesday and was confirmed dead before he was taken to the hospital. “Some of our people are on their way to Lagos to bring back his corpse.” The family, in a statement by the deceased’s elder brother, Clee Inokoba and first son, Waripamowei Inokoba, confirmed the incident.
One of the early callers at the Inokoba’s residence, Mr. Indutimi Komonibo, a pioneer member of the state House of Assembly, stated in a condolence register: “You are a great loss to us. But no one can question God.”
