Sagay, who spoke exclusively at the weekend, at the annual meeting of Government College, Ughelli, Old Boys Association, Lagos branch, said that the present government not only has the political will to prosecute the war but that it is also “blind” regarding those who will be prosecuted.
Asked if the committee will also go after members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, ACP, Sagay said:
“The whole struggle is a blind one. It does not look to the left or right, but goes straight to the subject matter regardless of who is involved.”
He said: “No time frame has been fixed so far, we will just carry on until we are told to stop. There is no time frame. The present government has the political will. You can see that the President is very determined, so there is no danger in that regard.
“I would not state the details or terms of reference but I can summarise it and simply say that what it involves is to provide support of the anti-corruption agencies and also intensively intervene in the whole process of the anti-corruption war. It is also to ensure that the administration of justice is effective and that all cases of corruption are prosecuted efficiently and as successfully as possible. In other words, we are to ensure that the anti-corruption war is successfully executed at all levels.
Speaking further he noted that, “no society can be corruption-free but we can reduce it to a minimum level so that the country can progress regardless of whatever is left.
The guest speaker, Prof. Benedict Itsueli, who gave the keynote address, earlier explained that the country needs to return to the values that were used to train students of the school in the past.
Itsueli listed some of the values as strict discipline, effective and comprehensive supervision of students, graduated system of punishment, punctuality and moral training, among others.
